hey…
i’m britta!
(the one sucking my thumb)
the picture above was taken with my paternal grandparents at our house in germany. i chose this picture because of the man on the right, hermann. i attribute my entrepreneurial and creative spirit to him. he found a way to survive and thrive before, during, and after world war II. he was responsible for everything my family had while growing up and instilled in my siblings and me the philosophy of chasing your dreams, no matter what.
in case you find yourself curious about the name of my business, i rescue dogs on the side of this side hustle (my day job is being a therapist). hank is my most recent rescue - i found him living in a crack den and knew he needed a better life. with no plans to keep him, when it came time to send him to a friend’s rescue agency, i couldn’t let him go.
The word "hapless" is used to describe someone unlucky. Through my own experiences—surviving childhood (a tip of the hat to most adults); moving to New Orleans less than a month before Katrina struck; and rescuing dogs, often victims of circumstances beyond their control, getting a second chance at a well-deserved life—I’ve learned that what initially seems unlucky can frequently turn into a gift. If you remain open to it, these challenging moments can reveal unexpected opportunities and growth.
